energydriver.sys

Intel Power Gadget kernel driver

From Intel Corporation
Part of the Intel family
Status
On a known-vulnerable list
Known variants
2 distinct hashes
Field notes

energydriver.sys is the kernel driver bundled with Intel Power Gadget, a utility for reading processor power, temperature, and frequency in real time. It was popular with developers benchmarking CPU-bound workloads and with PC enthusiasts who wanted finer-grained metrics than the operating system exposed by default.

There is no public CVE assigned to this driver as of this writing. It appears on the LOLDrivers list because of the access surface a power-monitoring driver requires (reads from CPU model-specific registers and energy counters), not because of a specific named vulnerability.

If you find it on your system and you no longer use Power Gadget, removing the leftover install is a clean step.

What the record shows

energydriver.sys is listed as a known-vulnerable driver on the public LOLDrivers project. 2 distinct binary hashes matching this filename are on record, meaning multiple versions of the file have been observed.

What this means, plainly
Presence is not proof of misuse. Driver files on the LOLDrivers list commonly ship with legitimate hardware tools, gaming software, or vendor utilities. Their presence is recorded as evidence on a record. It is never treated as a verdict about a person.
