Dead by Daylight requires Easy Anti-Cheat for online play, including a kernel driver on Windows. If you hit a 'Game Security Violation Detected' or 'Easy Anti-Cheat not installed' error, the usual cause is other software EACAnti-cheatEasy Anti-Cheat (EAC)Easy Anti-Cheat is one of the most widely deployed kernel anti-cheats in PC gaming. Founded by Finnish company Kamu in 2006, acquired by Epic Games in 2018, and bundled with Epic Online Services. The kernel driver loads while a protected game is running. User-mode daemons EasyAntiCheat.exe and EasyAntiCheat_EOS.exe are catalogued in the Field Guide's processes section.18 games in this family → objects to (RGB or overlay tools, macro software, a memory editor), so close those before reinstalling EAC from the game folder. The game process is DeadByDaylight-Win64-Shipping.exe.
Dead by Daylight uses Easy Anti-Cheat, the only anti-cheat it has shipped, despite recurring player requests for BattlEye. EAC was added a couple of years after launch; the public record does not cleanly pin the exact year, so the honest statement is around 2018 to 2019. On Windows, EAC ships a kernel-mode driver alongside its user-mode service, both loading with the game. The game process is DeadByDaylight-Win64-Shipping.exe (the Microsoft Store build is DeadByDaylight-WinGDK-Shipping.exe), and the anti-cheat is EasyAntiCheat.exe.
Behaviour reported banning more than 64,000 cheaters in 2022 in a January 2023 developer update, and has publicly acknowledged the cheating problem and its anti-cheat work. There has also been a false-positive conversation: players accused the studio of wrongful bans, and a Behaviour community manager responded that the claims were not accurate, stating players are not banned merely because someone cheated against them. As with any kernel anti-cheat, community reports cite EAC being tripped by ordinary background software (macro tools, overlays, or a memory editor left running from a single-player session), which is a reliability and false-positive concern rather than a security breach.
