What this game is

Call of Duty: Warzone is ActivisionPublisherActivisionActivision is the publisher of the Call of Duty franchise. Since 2021 the Call of Duty competitive experience has been protected by RICOCHET, Activision's in-house kernel-mode anti-cheat.8 games in this family →'s free-to-play battle royale. It launched in its current form on November 16, 2022 as Warzone 2.0, alongside Modern Warfare II, and it has no client of its own: it lives inside whichever premium Call of Duty is current. It moved to Black Ops 6 in November 2024 and to Black Ops 7 on December 4, 2025, and Activision says it takes on Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression from that game's Season 1, shortly after its October 23, 2026 launch. It runs on PC through Battle.net, Steam, and the Xbox app, and on PlayStation and Xbox consoles; Activision says the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions stop at Modern Warfare 4's Season 1.

What a thoughtful gamer should know

Warzone is free to download, but on PC it is not a light install: it brings a kernel driver and asks for TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. Check before you play: tpm.msc should report the TPM ready, msinfo32 should show UEFI mode with Secure Boot on, and Activision's free Secure Attestation Wizard checks both in one pass. If your PC fails, you can still play, but Activision limits you to Battle Royale Casual, away from consoles, and one non-compliant player pulls the whole party into that pool. Follow your motherboard maker's guide for firmware changes; Activision itself warns that changing them incorrectly can stop a PC from booting.

What installing this does to your system
kernel · with gameLoads a kernel-level driver while the game runs, then unloads it when you quit.

Because Warzone runs inside the current premium client, it carries that client's trust ask, which since December 4, 2025 means Black Ops 7's. RICOCHETAnti-cheatActivision RICOCHETRICOCHET is Activision's in-house kernel-mode anti-cheat, deployed across the Call of Duty franchise since 2021. The kernel driver loads while a protected Call of Duty title is running. Since the Black Ops 7 beta in October 2025, Activision has also required TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for Black Ops 7, for Warzone since December 4, 2025, and for Modern Warfare 4, checking the settings by attestation against Microsoft Azure servers; earlier titles are not named in that requirement, so this guide records the ask on each title rather than on RICOCHET as a whole.8 games in this family →'s kernel driver launches with the game and shuts down when you exit. On top of that, Warzone on PC asks for TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, and Activision checks them by attestation through Microsoft Azure rather than trusting a check made only on your PC. A PC that does not meet the requirement is not locked out entirely: Activision says it is restricted from certain modes, including Ranked Play, and may be placed in a separate matchmaking pool, which by June 2026 meant Battle Royale Casual only, with no consoles. The first launch can raise a Windows administrator prompt for CODBrokerInstaller.exe or enrollaik.exe, which registers your TPM; Activision says declining it means you cannot play.

Publisher track record

Warzone's trust ask has changed with its host. It inherited RICOCHET from the 2021 rollout onward, along with the false-ban episode of October 2024, when Activision said a workaround in Modern Warfare III and Warzone had "impacted a small number of legitimate player accounts" and restored them. When Activision announced the Black Ops 7 firmware requirement in September 2025, it said everything it was building for that game would also protect Warzone, and the requirement reached Warzone with the December 2025 integration. In June 2026 Activision acknowledged that a PC can fail attestation "because of issues with hardware or firmware rather than anything a player intentionally tampered with," and described the separate pool such PCs are placed in. Its own September 2026 report counted more than 70,000 hardware bans in the prior month; that figure is Activision's.
