What a thoughtful gamer should know

Before buying for PC, check your machine: tpm.msc should report the TPM ready, msinfo32 should show UEFI mode with Secure Boot on, and Activision's free Secure Attestation Wizard checks both in one pass. On AMD systems, a TPM manufacturer version in the 3.x.0.x range needs a BIOS update from your motherboard maker, and Activision itself says to follow the manufacturer's instructions before changing firmware settings. A PC that fails still launches, but it is held to Nuketown 24/7 and Battle Royale Casual, cannot match with consoles, and pulls its whole party into that pool. Modern Warfare 4, launching October 23, 2026, goes further: Activision says a PC without TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot cannot play any online mode.

What installing this does to your system
kernel · with gameLoads a kernel-level driver while the game runs, then unloads it when you quit.

Black Ops 7 was the first Call of Duty to require firmware security features on PC. RICOCHETAnti-cheatActivision RICOCHETRICOCHET is Activision's in-house kernel-mode anti-cheat, deployed across the Call of Duty franchise since 2021. The kernel driver loads while a protected Call of Duty title is running. Since the Black Ops 7 beta in October 2025, Activision has also required TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for Black Ops 7, for Warzone since December 4, 2025, and for Modern Warfare 4, checking the settings by attestation against Microsoft Azure servers; earlier titles are not named in that requirement, so this guide records the ask on each title rather than on RICOCHET as a whole.8 games in this family →, Activision's in-house anti-cheat, installs a kernel-level driver that Activision says launches with the game and shuts down when you exit. On top of that, the game requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, and Activision checks them by remote attestation, validating the settings "with Microsoft Azure servers in the cloud" instead of trusting a check made only on your own PC; Ranked Play adds a Microsoft Azure Attestation check before matches. The first launch can raise a Windows administrator prompt for CODBrokerInstaller.exe or enrollaik.exe, which registers your TPM, and Activision says declining it means the game will not run. Activision says the process "does not access your personal files or information, only Windows diagnostic data."

Publisher track record

Activision announced the requirement on September 29, 2025, saying that without TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot "you will not be able to play Black Ops 7 during the Beta and at launch," and extended it to Warzone on December 4, 2025. In February 2026 it added Azure Attestation for Ranked Play and detections for Cronus Zen and XIM Matrix, devices it called "cheating tools, even if they masquerade as accessibility devices," saying the detections read how inputs behave, not which device is plugged in. By June 2026, PCs that fail attestation were placed in a separate pool rather than blocked, and Activision acknowledged a PC can fail "because of issues with hardware or firmware rather than anything a player intentionally tampered with." In September 2026 the RICOCHET team reported more than 70,000 hardware bans in the prior month; those figures are Activision's own.
