Field notes

hpportiox64.sys is a kernel driver from HP, shipped with the HP OMEN Gaming Hub on HP OMEN, Pavilion Gaming, and ENVY systems. HP built it as a partial copy of the open-source WinRing0 driver, inheriting its full surface: I/O port access, PCI configuration read/write, MSR (Model-Specific Register) read/write, and kernel memory mapping.

SentinelOne discovered in 2021 that the driver accepted all of these operations from any local user without privilege checks. HP patched it in OMEN Gaming Hub v11.6.3.0 (July 2021). If you have an HP OMEN system, make sure the Gaming Hub is updated through the Microsoft Store.
